Background:

Accountant. Over 30 years’ experience managing the implementation of Software Applications in major global organizations working alongside directors to ensure the success of their multi million pound global IT projects.

HGSS Governor:

A  Governor at HGSS for 7 years and during that time have worked with a new Chair of Governors,  a new Deputy Chair of Governors, a new Headmaster, two new Deputy Headteachers and have seen the “arrival” of almost all of the present Governing body...... and ..... been involved in HGSS moving from a Secondary Modern to a thriving and successful Academy:

Involved in the transformation of the old Internal IT structure into the current Internal IT structure

Part of the small team which selected the company who initially ran the redesigned Internal IT team until the appointment of the current IT Manager

Involved in the selection of the company who initially redesigned the HGSS web site working with the company in the initial stages of the redevelopment of the web site

2007 - Parent Governor - Member of the Teaching & Learning Committee

2010 - As IT Link Governor introduced the IT Gifted & Talented Students to Oracle Corporation (the largest global database and business applications software company with in excess of 100,000 employees). The students are introduced to Oracle’s Business and then in teams present back to Oracle UK Senior Management a IT related subject

As Chair of Governors:

It is my duty to:

Ensure that the Governing Body maintains its high level of “Challenge” of the HGSS Senior Leadership Team, managed by the Headmaster, and that targets and goals agreed by the Governing Body and its Committees are achieved and maintained.

Act as a conduit between the Governing Body and the Headmaster and his team to ensure that the challenges of the 2014 Ofsted inspection are successfully met and that the school achieves, at a minimum, a grading of “Good” or “Outstanding” at best at the next Ofsted Inspection.

Ensure that the School Governors are kept abreast of happenings within the school that they need to be aware of.

Represent the Governors at various school functions.

Listen to Governors and in particular the Clerk to the Governing Body.

Summary:

I have a strong business background not an educational background, although I am married to a Deputy Head, and believe that I can bring my business experience to the school in the role of Chair of Governors.

I initially qualified and worked as a microbiologist. I then retrained as a computer programmer and worked in the I.T. industry for 25 years.

I have been a councillor for over 30 years, first with the London Borough of Lambeth and then since 1999 with Wycombe District Council. In 2003-04 I was Mayor of High Wycombe. I am a director of HWBIDCo, a trustee of the Wycombe Heritage and Arts Trust and also a member of the management board of Wycombe Community Arts Centre. I am chairman of the High Wycombe Town Twinning Association.

I am also a governor at Highworth Combined School and Nursery in High Wycombe.

I am a supply chain professional with career experience in both the Public and Private Sectors. In recent years this has meant working with a number of local authorities, and the emergency services.  My particular strengths relate to commercial project delivery, this has included transition management, organisation and process redesign, business process outsourcing, supply chain and contract relationship management, project recovery, corporate governance and change management.

I’m married to Esther, my long suffering best friend, and we are the proud parents of Henry, our only son, who has just started Aerospace Engineering at Nottingham. I am passionate about equality of educational opportunity and interested to understand the impact of pastoral efforts in mentoring children and young adults.

My interests include motor sports, horse riding, antiques, hill walking and sailing, the latter including three transatlantic crossings, cruising and offshore racing. I held a commercially endorsed RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate. I have managed a number of sailing projects and have been involved with youth sailing development.

Appointed as a Community Governor at HGSS in October 2018 having volunteered for the position. I’m really looking forward to working with everyone at HGSS.

I was a governor at Cedar Park Primary School from March 2005 to March 2013 including a period as Chair between October 2006 and October 2011. During this time I gained experience of two OFSTED inspections, a finance inspection and staff recruitment (including appointment of a new Head teacher).

I was appointed as a governor of Holmer Green Secondary school in March 2013. I am Chair of the Learning and Curriculum Committee which is responsible for monitoring progress and attainment of pupils across the school (key stage 3 and 4, GCSE and A levels) versus national and school targets. This committee also monitors the implementation of the school development plan and the school vision.

I am a research scientist; I have a BSc in Applied Biological Sciences, an MSc and am a Fellow of the Institute of Clinical Research.

I have worked within the Pharmaceutical industry for 25 years comprising both Quality Control and Quality Assurance. I have managed staff and am very familiar with both being audited and carrying out audits.

I am now an Occupational Therapist working for Hertfordshire County Council , as well as a Best Interest Assessor working freelance with Bucks County Council. I previously worked in education, as a consultant working internationally with the British Council, Council for Europe, European Union Comenuis (international schools projects) and a wide range of voluntary agencies I was also an Advisory Teacher for PSHCE (SMSC) with Camden Education Authority and worked on an educational research project with University College London.

I have been a school Governor since 1990 in both Primary and Special school before becoming a Parent Governor at HGSS in 2015. I am also currently Chair of Governors at a local primary school and have recently completed Chair of Governors’ Leadership Development Training with the National College for Teaching & Leadership.

I have a background in Physics and have worked in the Electronic Component industry for over 30 years.

I am Head of Music at Holmer Green Senior School and I have been teaching for over 5 years. I am committed to ensuring that the teaching and learning at Holmer Green is at its best all the time as well as giving students the chance to extend their knowledge of music outside of the classroom through a variety of extra-curricular musical activities.

Educated at The Manchester Grammar School and Oxford University, I emerged with a geography degree and joined the accountancy profession with Ernst & Young.  My work included audit, special investigations, staff training and local responsibility for staff development and assessment.  Subsequently I have held senior financial management positions in a variety of sizes and types of business in the food, security, IT and entertainment industries.  I have particularly strong experience of formulating and implementing business strategies, of business acquisitions and disposals, of financial management and reporting and of staff recruitment and development.  In my leisure time I am passionate about sport and participate in a variety of activities including golf and tennis.

Recently retired, I am extremely keen to utilize my business and personal experience to benefit the school, its pupil outcomes and the local community.

I was appointed as a Parent Governor of Holmer Green Senior School in March 2017 and am currently Development Governor responsible for governor induction training and development.  I am also in my 8th year of office as a Community Governor of a local primary school.  I previously worked in the theatre and events marketing industries and as PA to the Chairman of Everton FC.

I am Head of the Humanities Faculty at Holmer Green Senior School with a specialism in Religious Studies.  I have been teaching for 16 years and using my skills as an examiner have a track record of raising standards for learners.  I am a big believer that education is not just about learning the course in school but creating well rounded individuals who are inquisitive about the world around them.  It is for these reasons I joined the Governors at HGSS, to create well rounded individuals and help them to achieve their goals.

In my spare time I am a qualified Dance teacher and have a great passion for the arts.

My career started in the private sector, working in the insurance industry for 11 years, progressing from an office manager to financial advisor.  Once I had my boys I went to work in the public sector for Buckinghamshire County Council.  I have been with Buckinghamshire County Council for 15 years, working across the organisation in various roles.  Currently my role is in the Public Health Team and Communities Team as a Business Manager.

I have 17 years of experience in leadership and management and attained qualifications in this area; currently doing my MSc in Leadership and Management.  I am looking forward to supporting the People and Personnel Committee by using my experience to date.

Both my boys attended Holmer Green Senior School and when the opportunity presented itself to become a community governor at the school I grasped this with both hands!   Really looking forward to giving back to the community.

Having been a member of the local community for five years, with three children at various stages in the education system, I volunteered to become a governor.

Professionally I am a Chartered Surveyor, currently working in the public sector for the County Council, as a Project Manager in the major property projects team. I help get things built that the County needs (like schools and care homes.)

I am a member of the RICS and help assess young surveyors for membership.

If there is ever any spare time, I put on my trainers and head out for a run.

My career started with 5 years engineering training with Rolls-Royce Aero Engines in Derby, at the end of which I had become a Chartered Engineer and Member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology.  A few years later I took the opportunity to switch to general management with Gillette, including 2 years working and training in the United States.  I subsequently changed industries again and progressed to the position of Managing Director for the operations division of EMI, before finally ending my career as CEO for Linpac Metal Packaging.  In 2013 I was presented with the OBE for 30 years voluntary youth work and 13 post-retirement years voluntary work in schools, prisons and Africa.   Having now restricted my travel activities I am happy to have my experience used in school governor roles as Chair of Widmer End Combined Community School and here at HGSS.

I am retired from the Boeing Defence and Space Company where I worked for many years in software development and software configuration management.  My assignments have given me the opportunity to work in both the US and the UK.

I have a daughter who attends HGSS and I am delighted to be a governor for HGSS

I am delighted to join the Governing Body as a Parent Governor.  I am familiar with the role having been a governor at Highworth Combined School since 2012 where I have held a number of roles including a period as Chair from 2014 to 2018.  I have been involved in an OFSTED inspection and the recruitment of numerous teachers, most notably the Head Teacher.  I continue to sit on both the Curriculum and Personnel, Finance & Premises Committees at Highworth.   I work for a Market Research Company.

I am mum to three boys the oldest of whom is currently in Year 11 at HGSS.  I am Vice Chair and SEN Governor at a local infant school and am a Trustee for a charity providing support to children with Down Syndrome across Buckinghamshire.

I am the Director of Development for a London charity supporting adults who have learning disabilities, autism and mental health needs with significant experience in growth, marketing and fundraising.
