Mike Salem, a Year 10 student, started learning Bassoon when he started here at HGSS in April. Now he is performing in flash mobs.
Chiltern Music Academy surprised the townsfolk in Eden Shopping Centre with a bassoon flash mob to mark International Bassoon Day which launches a worldwide campaign to raise the profile of this endangered instrument and to encourage more children to learn the bassoon.
Mike joined 21 bassoonists and a group of percussionists playing Teddy Bears Picnic and Eine Kleine Natchmusik by Mozart to an enormous crowd which gathered in the Eden Shopping Centre. It was a wonderful occasion, but not without it's stresses.
Mike had to prepare music in advance and ensure that he could play his bassoon whilst walking through the crowds to get to his position in the ensemble which ranged from young children to top professional players.
Well done Mike!
