Open evening 2025

On Thursday 9th October, we held our Open Evening for 2026 entry.
It was a great success and the feedback has been wonderful to hear:
"What truly set your school apart from all the other schools we have visited, was your students. Wow! The number of students who approached us to ask if we were OK. The students didn't just point to where we needed to go but walked us there. The students were eager to help. They were polite, holding open doors, answering questions. It gave the impression that students were proud to show off their school, rather than being drafted in."
"The whole feel of the school was very special. It felt like a real community and I know that that is very rare these days."
"We were impressed by how your kids spoke about your school. I was particularly impressed with the 6th former in drama who spoke really eloquently and authentically about your culture of support and inclusion, and your library which had inclusive texts everywhere I looked, with no need to label them in any way other than brilliant reads."
"My daughter and friends absolutely loved seeing examples of what the school has to offer with the demonstrations in each class. We did have a personal tour from xx who was so enthusiastic and wanted to ensure we made it to the art rooms with a quick detour en route to French. We finished with xx in the Drama room who spent time talking to us and answering a lot of questions."
"Loved the Science and Biology experiments and the humour. So did the girls who spent nearly an hour between those rooms and the library."
"My son attends HGSS in Year 9 and am delighted to say that my daughter has said she can’t wait to join HG in September."
"Appreciate the time all the staff took to put on this event. A lot of preparation behind the scenes and delicious baking too 😊"
"Parents should be very proud of their children as they were amazing in bringing to life the passion discussed from the stage."
"We visited the PE, RE, Maths, History, English, PHSE and Sociology department, food tech, 6th form and the library and every single member of staff was passionate and engaging. Staff approached us to talk to us rather than us having to approach them. We had a fantastic conversation with one of the History teachers who talked us through the curriculum and spoke about trips. The member of staff in English who was dressed up and talked about his favourite books. The library which gave out books to encourage reading..... What a tremendous idea!"
"The standout department for me was the art department. I asked the member of staff there if art was a focus of the school. She spoke so passionately and enthusiastically about the department, the students and the school. She proudly showed display work and introduced us to Asher and his work. Her love for the subject and pride for the students work was palpable."
"I appreciated the deviation from the norm of tours, allowing us to freely explore areas of interest without being beholden to others."
