Achievement for All

Media Elements

At HGSS we are proud of the broad and balanced curriculum we offer our students.  Our five form entry is divided into six teaching groups enabling us to set according to ability in English, maths and science, challenge every child and provide extensive support to those with learning difficulties.

We believe that every student can achieve academic success and are proud that the National Association for Able Children in Education recognised this in 2008 when it commented that our ‘can do’ ethos raised expectations for all our students.  Please follow the links on this page to find full details of every subject area.  In addition, please read my Headteacher’s Report to Governors (March 2010) their work and developments over this past academic year.

Please do look through our Teaching and Learning policy. Within you'll find the extremely high standards we set for teaching and learning at HGSS and the key elements that comprise the many outstanding lessons visitors and Ofsted Inspectors have witnessed in our school.

Many of our curriculum areas introduce GCSE course in to Year 9 and there are extended opportunities to do additional GCSEs across a broad range of subject areas including maths, drama, ICT and religious studies.

Partnerships with local schools and our on site Skill Centre has enabled us to offer a range of vocational opportunities for students from Year 10 upwards that include motor mechanics, hair and beauty and construction.  Our whole school enterprise ethos ensures that work place skills are in the forefront of our students’ minds and that we stay true to our commitment to prepare every one of our young people for the challenge of 21st century careers.
