Mission

The mission statement of Young Enterprise is ‘To inspire and equip young people to learn and succeed through enterprise'.

The Young Enterprise mission fits perfectly within our school’s desire to develop young people so that they will have the opportunity to gain personal experience of how business works as well as gaining an understanding of different employment roles. The focus is to inspire and help students to recognise areas that they can develop to improve their prospects so they are fully prepared for the competiveness that they will face in industry in the UK nationally as well as globally.

Young Enterprise provides students with the opportunity to run a real company in a programme that develops team working and competition. The teams have to work together to raise finances for their business ventures. Recently this has included organising a very successful Year 7 disco, producing products to sell at Christmas Fayres and running various events in school.

The finale of the Young Enterprise programme is held in March where the companies operate at a trade fair answering judges’ questions to ascertain how well the students have scored against the criteria for the different prizes that are on offer. This is a very tough day where students are really tested in terms of knowledge and understanding of how their business has performed over the year.

Information

Ten Year 12 students have been running their own company for the past year which they called 'Sensual Senses'.  To fund the business they gathered some initial investment from friends and family who bought shares in the company. This initial capital was put to good use where the students developed their ideas in order to bring some products to market. They created a school calendar, Christmas dog wreath, cake sales, candle gift sets and Christmas coasters to raise the capital needed to fund the main focus of the business which is cosmetics. The company has bought in propriety products and repackaged them to bring to market including bath bombs, face scrubs, oils and burners.  The students so far have sold to students, staff and customers outside the school.  They are continuing the business until the end of the financial year when they plan to celebrate their success!

Trade Fair Triple Success

There was some very strong competition from the grammar schools.  However our team 'Sensual Senses' was superb in presenting, winning best overall presentation for the first time in the school's history. This involved the students delivering a speech and presentation to a crowd of over 400 including judges, fellow students and the general public.

Our students also managed to win two other prizes. The first was runners up in the business plan award where the students received a cash sum for their efforts. The report detailed all the companys’ finances and their plans for future success.

The second was for a tightly contested prize for the best corporate image. Our team was really close to success and won the runners up trophy!
