Religious Education at Holmer Green Senior School follows the Buckinghamshire Agreed Syllabus (2001-2006).

Key stage 3 

The Syllabus has two main purposes. Firstly, to enable students to learn more about themselves and their place in the world from their study of religion. Secondly, to enable students to learn about religions which have influenced the lives of millions of people and have influenced the development of different human cultures.

Year 7 units of study:

  • What is RE?
  • Belonging
  • Why Celebrate?
  • Worship
  • What is a Church?
  • What makes a Journey Special?

Year 8 units of study:

Through the study of Christianity, Islam and Buddhism in Year 8, students are encouraged to: 

  • Understand the nature, role and influence of religion in the world.
  • Pursue a personal quest for meaning, purpose and value.
  • Formulate reasoned opinions/arguments.
  • Promote an understanding of and respect for different beliefs and lifestyles.

Year 9 units of study:

Through the study of Medical Ethics, Human Relationships, Equality and Good and Evil, students are encouraged to:

  • Understand the nature, role and influence of religion in the world.
  • Pursue a personal quest for meaning, purpose and value.
  • Formulate reasoned opinions/arguments.
  • Promote an understanding of and respect for different beliefs and lifestyles.

Year 10: Ethics

  • Religion and Human Relationships
  • Religion and Medical Ethics
  • Religion, Poverty and Wealth
  • Religion, Peace and Justice
  • Religion and Equality

Year 11: Philosophy 

  • Beliefs about Deity
  • Religious and Spiritual Experience
  • The End of Life
  • Good and Evil
  • Religion, Reason and Revelation
  • Religion and Science
