Letter to all parents, 4th June 2008
Dear Parents
Following our Ofsted inspection on the 14th and 15th May it is with great pleasure and pride that I send you their official report.
Ofsted were very impressed with all aspects of Holmer Green Senior School and overall judged it a good school with many outstanding features. This is due in no small measure to our team of dedicated and hard working staff and my thanks and congratulations must firstly go to them.
The inspectors were also particularly impressed with the commitment and enthusiasm of our students and they also deserve to be warmly congratulated. Please forgive me if I extract and highlight a number of their comments:
- Students make good progress and develop outstanding personal skills.
- Relationships are particularly good, and students speak in glowing terms of the extra help and support which teachers are prepared to provide both in and out of lessons.
- Behaviour around the school is very good.
- Students enjoy being at the school and as a result they attend well.
- Students develop exceptional skills in team work, competitiveness and risk taking through the impact of the Business and Enterprise Specialism, which prepare them thoroughly for their future economic well-being.
- The school provides an extensive range of additional sporting, cultural and personal enrichment activities in which there is high participation.
- The school’s specialism in Business and Enterprise pervades the whole curriculum and has an excellent impact on improving learning across the school and preparing students for life after school.
- Students enjoy the Sixth Form, their behaviour is exemplary … and their personal development is outstanding.
- Detailed assessment information enables the school to track students’ progress closely and to set appropriately challenging targets as they move through the school.
- The school’s monitoring of teaching and learning is exemplary; teachers are constantly striving to improve and are very well supported as they do so.
- Leadership and management in the school are outstanding.
- Many parents comment on the ‘care, dedication and hard work of the staff’ in ‘supporting and motivating students to not only achieve well, but to improve their confidence and self-belief’.
I am delighted with the report and particularly pleased that Ofsted not only recognised the many strengths of Holmer Green Senior School but also judged our capacity for further improvement as outstanding.
Finally, a successful school relies on teamwork; teachers, support staff, students, parents, governors and members of our extended community working together. Holmer Green Senior is our school and I would like to extend my sincere thanks and congratulations to everyone who has contributed to this success.
