Starting Secondary school can be a daunting experience and whilst some students find the transition easy and automatically settle, there are others who struggle to find their place in such a big institution. This is why our mentoring system is so important. On entering Holmer Green every student in Year 7 will be assigned a Year 10 mentor to help them settle into their new school.

Within the first two weeks the pupils will have met their mentor and taken part in their first session with them. During the first term there are regular opportunities for the mentor and mentee to meet and, if required, these meetings can carry on throughout the year.

The Year 10 mentors have all gone through a rigorous application process and take their role very seriously. Prior to the Year 7s arriving they undertake specially designed training sessions so they are competent and confident with the skills required for their role.

The school is very proud of the way our students carry out their responsibility and believe the system provides a ‘safety net’ for students who may not be settling in and provides an extended support system for all pupils.
