Holmer Green Senior School became designated as a specialist Business and Enterprise school in September 2006.
Our specialist subject areas are Business, Information Technology and Mathematics and we make a commitment to support local schools in the primary as well as secondary sector in these areas.
An Enterprise Ethos
Our status plays a far bigger part in our school life than simply impacting on these subjects. We have an Enterprise ethos, recognised by Ofsted, that pervades every aspect of the school and is built into our expectations of Teaching and Learning (LINK). At HGSS, enterprise means:
- Student Leaders – we seek to build the confidence in our students so that they take ownership and responsibility for their learning as well as the activities available throughout the school.
- Student Partnership – teamwork is a fundamental aspect of our students’ learning and central to their development and preparation for the world of work. They are committed not simply to their own progress but to the progress of their school.
- Solving Problems – We refute the notion that academic learning is something you can or can’t do but build belief in our students that all problems are challenges that can be overcome through confidence, the acquisition of knowledge and the application of skills.
- Taking Risks – At HGSS we are happy when students make mistakes but unhappy when they don’t try. We seek to develop risk takers who aren’t afraid of new challenges, relish experimentation and who recognise that any real accomplishment is the result of patience and commitment.
